Small Silly Actions Beat Your Endless Research

Aug 12, 2026  ·  From the podcast episode notes.

I’ve got a cup here with the iAlign filter drawn on it in sharpie. I made it in a cafe in 2023 when a friend asked what I was working on, and instead of talking about the weather or the game I said let me show you, and at that point almost none of what I was describing existed. A decent amount of it exists now, and the same goes for the first version of my software, which I sent out to about 100 people and which was so bad it was embarrassing. I put it out anyway because it was the next small silly step. That’s really what this one is about, that the small silly actions become the evidence you use to make the bigger decisions later, and the over planning and over researching never do.

Find what you love and let it kill you. And I’ll explain why I’m holding this cup covered in gibberish in a second here.

that quote has resonated with me for a long time because I think that it is heavily associated with the feeling of alignment. And when I talk about alignment, I mean a great sense of alignment between your actions, your environment, the people around you, your behaviors, your dreams, your path, your direction, your p- many different kind of more tangible things in your life and your core values.

And when you’re able to better define what those are and identify practical, implementable definitions of them and then use them to change your lifestyle such that more and more of your life are in alignment, you get this sensation, this feeling, and it’s like contentment. It’s the reason why three hours ago I was comatose.

I was so tired. I’ve been kinda anxious recently, and it’s taken a bunch of my energy from me, even while trying to, put out basically the same amount of workload. I’ve been under a lot of stress, under a lot of emotions, and so in between calls sometimes I go sit on my meditation mat instead I’m on the floor.

Not, not like in a bad way, just, like, taking a five-minute floor nap, which floor naps, for those who don’t know, are high-tier naps. but this quote, “Find what you love and let it kill you,” It reminds me of

When you find something that is deeply in alignment with who you wanna become, what you wanna pursue, what you wanna build, you’re an engineer, what you wanna create, it’s so important to alter your environment such that you have a higher likelihood of taking action toward it.

And instead of over-planning and over-researching and trying to pursue this large long-term goal, to instead take small, potentially silly actions toward that goal because those small silly actions will turn into the evidence that you use to substantiate the decisions you make in the future. for example, this cup is part of a small silly action that I took that is one of the reasons why I’m sitting in front of this camera right now and part of the reason I just got off hours of calls with clients beforehand talking about these subjects.

on this cup is this diagram of the iAlign filter, which effectively is a filter that you use that is created by your core values, it’s something I coach, that takes the noise of the outside world and filters out that which should not be in your life and only allows through that which is aligned in this cup, if you look back in any of my old recordings in my old, some of my old offices, is in the, is in the background.

and I wrote these things. There’s some other diagrams that I’ll talk about in future videos that are kind of fun predicting the state of the world based off of this stuff, I was in a cafe with a friend of mine, and I was explaining to her this long-term vision, which at this point, when I wrote this, this was in 2023.

over three years ago. Nothing that I’m talking about existed. And now, not as much as I would like to exist, exists yet still, but quite a bit of it exists, right? And I can speak very clearly to things that are actually occurring to the softwares that I’m building, to the people that I’m supporting, the things I’m building, the vision.

Like, things are much more clear now. this cup is a part of that journey For 15 minutes or 20 minutes, someone asked me a question about what I was doing, and I said, “Let me show you.” Right? And instead of talking about the weather or about the most recent sports game or TV shows, I diagrammed this out on a cup.

I was like, Find me a piece of paper and a pen. Here’s a cup. Got a, got a Sharpie. Let me show this to you ’cause I’m so excited about it. It’s so in alignment.” and that is a feeling that I continuously strive to embody and bring into my life because each little conversation I have, each little cup I draw on, each little software tool I build, even when it’s total shit, right?

I was just talking to a client. The first iteration of the iAlign software I sent out, I sent out to, like, 100 people. It was so bad. It was embarrassing. But I had to. I had to put it out there because it was the next small, silly step that is going to lead toward…

Like, for those of you watching this video, you come back in 10 years, I promise you, this is gonna be fucking real. Like, it’s not gonna be on paper. It’s not just gonna be words. They’re not gonna be PDF modules. It’s not gonna be just software tools that I’m building.

That will be implemented. There will be infrastructure. Data centers will be supporting this. It will be filtering out the noise for human beings to operate at their highest level, right? Because I’m willing to put this video out, draw that silly diagram, build the silly tool, and show it to people. Find what you love and let it kill you through small, consistent, resilient action toward that goal.

And all the obstacles that show up along the way, that’s where you support yourself with the right tools and resources that I talk about in order to give yourself a higher probability of taking the action that will lead to you taking the small action, even if you seem fucking insane, ’cause I think sometimes I do.

I’m just gonna be honest about that. And, like, this probably is a little quirky find what you love. Find that which is in alignment and let it kill you. There’s my quote. Peace.
