Delegate Your Embarrassment
Oct 17, 2026 · From my email newsletter.
I like to delegate my embarrassment to other people.
It is inevitable in this world for anyone who is ambitious and thinks in a systems or logical way to end up with many open loops in the back of their head.
What that means is you have consciously or unconsciously committed yourself to some specific task.
Being overcommitted, which just means having too many open loops in the back of your head that you’re trying to pay attention to, is what led me to overthink.
To scroll my phone.
To avoid in general.
To overeat.
To not exercise. π΅βπ«
It is what led me to waste my time and not spend my time on the things that I actually wanted to.
One subspace of the open loops that exist in the back of our head are the things we need to delegate.
Tasks or responsibilities we really shouldn’t be spending our time on because they’re just low leverage and they don’t use our specific superpowers.
And there are many reasons why we might avoid these specific open loops.
Sometimes it’s a financial issue, where we don’t want to spend the money to have someone else do the thing for us, so we end up doing the thing repeatedly week after week.
Sometimes we feel some sort of guilt about delegating it.
Sometimes we feel guilt about asking for help.
Or we know we don’t actually have control over our time and our behavior, so even if we were to delegate it, we probably still wouldn’t spend that time effectively.
And therefore it becomes a bad cost analysis of,
“I’m going to spend money, but then I’m going to waste that time scrolling my phone.” π
Sometimes the action we’re not taking is because closing that loop would actually require us to put ourself in a position where we might get embarrassed.
An example of this is basically any form of content creation.
When I started making videos I was putting out videos on TikTok daily, I think about three a day.
The reason I put them up on TikTok is because I didn’t want to put them up on Instagram.
Instagram had a bunch of people I knew, and to put them on the platform where people knew me would put me in a position where I could feel embarrassed.
And it still does.
When I record these videos and put them up I still feel embarrassment, even if I feel confident about what I’m talking about or what I’m trying to convey. π¬
Embarrassment still slows me down in the process of creating and publishing content.
Each video that I want to create is effectively an open loop.
And if embarrassment plays a role in each one of those open loops being closed, then every single one of them gets slower.
Look at this from a task delegation standpoint.
When you have a task or an obstacle that is the same task or obstacle repeatedly in a similar process, what should you do as a business operator?
You should delegate it.
That’s what everyone is starting to do with Claude and ChatGPT. π€
When you have some sort of email reminders or calendar reminders, or just things that you know you shouldn’t be spending your time on that someone else or something else can do for you, you automate it.
It’s efficient.
But how do you automate or delegate something that isn’t a taskβ¦
Something that isn’t something Claude can run, or that you can’t hire off of Fiverr or Upwork, but that consistently blocks you in the same way each time?
One example being embarrassment.
It might sound funny, but the way that I have done this with embarrassment is I delegate it.
I let you, whoever you are, be embarrassed for me.
Sometimes I say things on these videos that I go,
“God, that was kind of cringey and dumb.”
Or I do something because I’m trying to work on hooks, and I sit down in the chair and I think,
“Ooh, that’s embarrassing. Am I an influencer now?” π
Or someone tells me that I should try something in this way because it’s better for viewer retention, or because more people will hear my content.
And I go,
“Ooh, that’s kind of cringey. I don’t really want to do that.”
What I do is I say,
“I’m going to let other people be embarrassed for me.”
Because I know for a fact that I’ve probably done or said things in my content where you’ve been like,
“Ooh, Flint, that was embarrassing, brother.”
And I know that’s true.
I can guarantee that people have watched my content and been like,
“Wow, ooh, that was kinda cringey, brother.” π
And that’s okay.
But what that means is that you are feeling that.
So if you’re going to feel it, why don’t I just let you feel it and not me?
I know that sounds a bit ridiculous.
But if embarrassment is blocking me and someone is going to feel it regardless, why don’t I just let it be someone else?
So when I do something where I think,
“God, that might be a bit embarrassing. That might be a bit cringey,”
I think,
“I’ll let them feel embarrassed for me.” π€·
Same thing with asking for help in scenarios where it feels like,
“Oh, am I going to seem a bit dumb for asking for help for this thing?”
I think,
“Let’s let them think I’m dumb for this thing. Let’s let them feel embarrassed for me asking this question.”
Because the reality is if I ask the question, I’m far more likely to get to the answer faster than if I just sit in the shadows and try to work myself to it.
Hard work is still important.
But I want to exert hard work on the things that matter, not on the things where I can get an easy, simple answer. π€
So when I ask for help, or when I post things up on the internet with the intent of sharing or demonstrating some message that I think is important or valuable, and those actions are going to lead to some sort of embarrassment, I think,
“I’m going to delegate my embarrassment to them, because I know that this action is important, and someone’s going to get embarrassed by this.”
Maybe it just shouldn’t be me.
So I’m curious, which of your open loops is actually an embarrassment problem?
The one you’ve been calling a time problem or a money problem, that is really just you not wanting to be seen doing it badly.
Reply and let me know what it is.
One line is plenty.

Anyways, I’m Flint Mitchell from iAlign. I went from a life of procrastination, overthinking, distraction, and doom scrolling to a life of authenticity, freedom, and action.
by doing things like what I just talked about, delegating out my embarrassment so that I can continue to take action regardless.
